Little Phoenix’s birth was a thirty-hour labour at home. Bethany and the midwives did an amazing job. It was extraordinary to witness the willpower, endurance, and love involved in bringing our little son through the birth canal and into the world.
During the birth, Phoenix’s right arm was compressed tightly against his body, with his little hand positioned next to his face. When he was born, the arm appeared frozen in place, most likely from being compressed in the birth canal for such a long time. After four days, his arm still had not moved, so we decided to balance him.
To begin, I performed a Double Deep Survival Switching balance on Bethany, this centred around processing the immense emotional shift and elation of becoming a mother. I then established a surrogate connection between Bethany and Phoenix so I could balance him through her body.
Using fascia mode, I gently stretched Bethany’s arm to mirror Phoenix’s restricted position and balanced the associated fascial restrictions through the surrogate connection. We also performed a cranial balance through Bethany for Phoenix, as his head had experienced significant elongation during birth. By day four his head shape had already returned to normal, but I wanted to ensure there was no residual stress held within the cranial structures.
During the same balance, we also checked in with his spiritual hierarchy.
When Phoenix woke from his sleep afterwards, he stretched out his right arm for the first time. Since then, he has shown no signs of restriction.

Since birth, Phoenix had difficulty feeding from one breast. He would become unsettled, fidgety, and distressed on one side. On day six, a close friend of Bethany’s visited and immediately commented that his neck appeared injured, likely again from the prolonged birth process.
That evening, we performed another surrogate balance with Bethany acting as the surrogate. I activated the neck by having Bethany rotate her neck in the restricted direction. The balance linked directly into a past-life stress pattern connected to residual karma from a lifetime in Asia and indicated the Bach Flower Remedy Gorse as a correction.
Remarkably, immediately after the balance Phoenix was able to feed peacefully from both sides, and he has remained comfortable feeding ever since.
On day twelve, Phoenix began showing signs of pain and distress that had been building for some time. Bethany was also experiencing her first teary period since the birth, so we decided to balance again.
The balance indicated blocked energy around the thymus gland. It showed that one of his guides was struggling to connect — specifically his Aboriginal great-great-grandmother. Through the kinesiology process we cleared the blockage, allowing the connection to occur, and Phoenix immediately settled with no further signs of pain.
At the same time, we were also able to balance grief carried within Bethany’s ancestral line from one of her Aboriginal ancestors dating back to when she was six years old. Afterwards, both Bethany and Phoenix drifted into a deep healing sleep.
During his fourth week, Baby Phoenix started sleeping less and less. He was spending an unusual amount of time awake and active for one so young. By Friday night he was visibly and audibly upset. It appeared as though the lack of sleep was catching up with him; he was clearly distressed.
I was feeling unwell myself and Bethany was fatigued from not having enough rest. We were both sprawled across the couch; no one was feeling 100%.
I suggested doing a surrogate balance on myself for Baby Phoenix. Previously, I had balanced Bethany as the surrogate. I find that when it’s your own child, it is easier when both parents are involved in the balance. It feels as though the space is contained more effectively and helps neutralise some of the subjectivity that can arise when working with your own offspring.
His Switching was out and, for the first time, both his Central and Governing meridians tested out of balance.
I checked his Axial Energies, which led to structural stress in both his T3 and T8 vertebrae. The structural stress related to his upper mental body, which in turn indicated stress associated with a past life.
As the balance unfolded, the kinesiology indicated an experience of losing his mother as a child and carrying emotional pain associated with that event. I continued to share what was emerging during the balance with Bethany as we lay together on the couch.
After muscle monitoring various options, the kinesiology guided me to open a bridge between his soul in this life and the soul of his mother who was not embodied. As this occurred, we all felt a noticeable shift in the energy surrounding us.
Immediately, Baby Phoenix’s appearance of distress softened and he began showing a happy disposition again. His sleep patterns shifted almost instantly and, over the following days, he napped on and off throughout the day like a little baby should.
Over my career as a kinesiologist, I have witnessed remarkable changes in newborns through the application of kinesiology. There is a strong sense that when we help clear the stresses and imbalances surrounding birth, we create tremendous opportunity — removing obstacles that may otherwise influence the course of a person’s life for years to come
